3D Class Week 04 Lego Team & Reference

New week, new Lego building round! This team we are placed on a team of six rather than three, and the entire class is building just one scene with everyone's involvement.I choose to be on a team focused on character design with Ryan, Kay, Melissa, Matt Young, and Lindsey. Because our theme is futuristic, I plan on making a space mechanic. Below are pictures of the Lego I am modeling this round as well as reference pictures for my character.

3D Class Week 03 Lego Project Part 01

Onto our Lego building! Since this was the first time in a real while that I have modeled anything in maya, this project was a little bit more challenging for me then the past projects. It took me around 10 hours to model my Lego piece (which includes watching the movies and re-working the Lego to function in the way I needed it to). It took me about 5 hours to build my object for our neighborhood scene.

Starting to model the pieces in Maya; at this point the arch and the block were separate pieces and I was measuring and adjusting the two to make sure they would work:

Got to this point eventually, and hallowed out the middle of the model to fit together. Ended up getting myself in a bind with the way I was handling the geometry so I went shortly after to get help:


Nick showed me a better way of carving out the geometry by modeling half of my Lego at a time then mirroring the geometry, which was a lot easier to work with:

Animation Class Week 02 Bouncing Ball

For this assignment we made an animation of a bouncing ball. The animation had to show elements of squashing and stretching in the animation. This video took me around 1.4 hours to make.



2D Class Week 02 Basics of Drawing Shapes

For this project we went into ZBrush and made a scene with two mannequins posing. From there we re-created the scene in Photoshop using shapes as guides and then finished rendering the scene. This project took me approximately 2.5 hours total.





3D Class Week 03 Lego Team & Reference

For the next 3D Class project we will be working in a team of three to create something using Lego models created in Maya by the whole class. We each spent time today picking out a real-life reference Lego to model for all of the different teams to use. I am on team Kay, Chelsea, & Yanjun. Once I am done modeling my Lego piece, I will import it into UE4 to use to create something together with these two.

Tech Art Week 02

For this project we imported pre-made assets from different locations into a single level/project in UE4. We then placed the assets into our level and connected everything to source control.

Note that I made nothing in this scene I just put everything in there:





Because I am still getting used to both Perforce and UE4, this project was kind of confusing for me and I am still not completely sure if I did everything correctly. I'm sure as the year progresses though the process will become much more comfortable.

3D Week 02 Minecraft-ish Level

For this assignment we took our UE4 blocks and pushed them to the next level. We took a block and used Maya and Photoshop and gave the blocks a MineCraft-like texture. We then took the block and imported it into UE4 along with the textures we made. From there we made meshes and materials in UE4 and used these custom "MineCraft-ish" blocks to make a level that resembled a creation from MineCraft.

This project took me around 6 hours total, approximately 2.5 hours to build the level. I had to re-do parts of the project involving the UVs due to me not saving the Maya project the first time.
